FAQ's

Here you'll find the answers to the most common questions I get. If you didn't find the answer though, please fill out the contact form at the bottom of the page and I'll get back to you.
  • Where is your studio?
My studio is at my home, so I don't advertise it's precise location. Google requires business to display a sign outside the front of an business, and as it's my family home, I don't want to do this. However, it's in the Chesterton area of Cambridge, a short bus ride from the city center. When you book a session, I'll send all the details.
  • Can you come to record me/my band in another location?
Yes, I occasionally record artists in other locations such as other studios, churches, village halls etc... This tends to be when the I'm working with bigger ensembles that want to play live together, or if the artist wants the natural character of a particular building i.e. Church
  • How much do you charge? How much does a song cost?
Every project is different so I don't have a set price for anything. I either work on an agreed hourly/day rate, or I set a fixed price for a particular project. For a fixed project rate I need to know a lot about the project before I can give a price. My hourly rate depends on my role and responsibilities. So in order to get a price, we first need to discuss the project and how we're going to go about it. Once I have all the information I need, I aim to send a proposal within 48 hours.
  • Can you help me finish my songs?
Yes, I'm an experiences songwriter and I'm happy to help with all aspects of songwriting, from lyrics, to melodies and chord progressions?
  • I don't have a band but would like a band sound on my recordings. Can you help, and if so, how?
I work primarily with solo singer-songwriters, most of whom don't have a band. In this case I usually spend a day working with them on the arrangement. We map out what each 'band member' is going to do using a combination of real and virtual instruments. Once we have a road map of the arrangement, I can then get session players in to bring our sketch to life.
  • I'd like to record myself singing a song but I don't play an instrument, can you accompany me?
Yes, I am happy to learn a song and accompany you on guitar. If you'd prefer piano, I have some excellent pianist friends who are always happy to drop into the studio and provide accompaniment.
  • I've recorded a song myself and just need someone to mix it, can you help?
Yes, I love mixing and it's always a pleasure to mix something brand new. If you send me a rough mix of the production I can provide a quote.
